With this Act, the legislator wanted to give citizens the right to consult documents kept by public bodies. DELAY
Under section 98 of the act, the person responsible for access to information has up to 20 calendar days from the date of receipt to respond. However, this period may be extended by 10 days, if necessary.
REPRODUCTION COSTS
The fees are determined by the government’s regulation on the fees payable for the transcription, reproduction and transmission of documents and personal information, which is available on the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec website.
RECOURSE FOLLOWING A REFUSAL
Section 135 of the Act provides that a person whose request has been refused in whole or in part by the person responsible for access to information may ask the Access to Information Commission to review that decision. The request for review must be in writing; it may briefly set out the reasons why the decision should be reviewed. (Rule 137)
